Hotel Facilities:

Head Chef Mariuz Przeworski.

Originally from Poland, Mario’s career in the UK began over 8 years ago. Importantly he has spent all of this time here in the Cotswolds. Locally renowned 5 star hotel Calcott Manor was his first taste of dishes we like in this area, followed by the well regarded Rectory Hotel and Swan at Southrop, before joining The Ormond in January 2012.

Mario runs a busy kitchen serving robust, seasonal British food with some classic French inspired dishes using local sourced produce, game and meat from the many farms around Tetbury. He can often be seen at Stroud or Cirencester farmer’s markets buying from local suppliers like Madgett’s Farm, suppliers of our excellent duck and chicken, and generally keeping in touch with new local food producers.

Dropping in for a drink or need to quell that hunger, The Ormond Bar has long been a popular meeting place in town. The warm, cosy atmosphere is exceptionally welcoming and with candles and fires in the winter, newspapers, magazines and sofas, it’s a great spot to while away an evening. The bar serves four real ales, including a guest ale, permium draught beers, 2 carefully selected draught ciders and a great variety of bottled and continental beers and ciders. We have a wide selection of wines by the glass, warming mulled wine in winter, and an excellent choice of digestifs and local liqueurs from suppliers in Gloucestershire.

Smoking is permitted outside in our Courtyard Garden.

Local Areas of Interest:
The area known as the Cotswold Water Park contains 147 lakes and was formed by quarrying and gravel extraction over the last 50 years. So far these lakes cover almost 1,000 hectares of open water and provide excellent leisure opportunities for sailing, water ski-ing, wind-surfing, canoeing and diving. For those who prefer to stay on land there is walking, cycling, bird-watching, angling, paint-balling and in summer the Cotswold Country Park is ideal for children with its sandy beach, adventure playground and children’s activities and pedalos.

With a rich variety of flora and fauna these lakes provide a home for a stunning variety of wildlife thoughout the year. Birdwatchers will be rewarded for their patience in the bird hide, as regular visitors include the great crested grebe, sedge warblers, whitethroat and kingfishers and a visit in winter could well include sightings of fieldfare, brambling, wigeon, pochard and teal.

Castle Combe has been called ‘The Prettiest Village in England’ and with good reason; visitors have been coming to enjoy its charms for at least a century and the small street leading from the Market Cross down to the By Brook is as picturesque today as it ever was.

In recent times the village has played host to many filming activities, the most famous of these being ‘Doctor Doolittle’ filmed in and around the village in 1966. More recently the village has had a major role in ‘War Horse‘, ‘Stardust‘ and ‘The Wolf Man’. The village is also a sanctuary to wildlife as it is a conservation area and enjoys the beauty of nature at its very best.
